I expect so - it's a recurring theme in indie self-descriptions, the attempt to re-appropriate negative-sounding terminology and apply it to yourself. Deliberately puts off people who "won't get it". To me it seems snobby and cowardly at the same time, but hey.
Were they any good? I was knackered by the time they came on and made a break for the session at the Half Moon instead.
