I think the aborigine issue is one of the most visible examples of positive discrimination. I wouldn't claim to be well read on the facts, but in essence it seem to boil down to the government helping people who are aborigine, rather than all people who need help.
Personally, I have little time for people who whine that they deserve better treatment because many generations ago, one group of people mistreated another. The vast majority of areas this happens are democratic and capitalistic, poorness and lack of education affect plenty of people, and to give advantages to one group of disadvantaged people over another does nothing to help tip the balance from capitalism to social responsibility, nor to form an integrated society.
