ultra-compressed weekend

rain, fretfulness and regret, sudden plans, wine, pink river dolphins and tree octopi, surprise, wine, cycling on ice late at night, editing, friends, schoolgirl angst, uproarious drumming-heels-on-floor laughter, wine, hangover and headrush and gloopy winter sunset, wine, pub, fire, food, crosswords, driving too fast and smoking too much, small unruly animals, demon babies, rabbits doing the ironing, ice cream, wine, taxi.

At least it was all the same colour of wine.

Sounds -fabulous-. Full spectrum weekend.

Finding a rabbit to do the ironing sounds like a major coup ... or a particularly tempestuous acid trip...

Still, excitement is what matters...

That does indeed sound like a most interesting weekend. The tree-octopi and the rabbits doing the ironing sound like major coups ... or major acid trips.

Mine involved less wine, probably, but still a fair amount. And a Martini big enough to farm trout in.

Randomly, I'll be up Oxford ways week after next. Having not seen you in more than a year, I wonder if you're available for a cuppa at some point?

A woman's best friend is her squibbon...

PS: I have pre submitted! Now all I need is to find a sufficiently dominant Microsoft lead approver and I can submit properly...

Is that a person you need to find? Or a small object made of lead? Whatever it is, good luck finding one.

And the squibbon's eyes just kill me.

That would be fun. And there are many nice places to have cuppas in Oxford. Give me a shout...

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2006-01-30 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm. Trout farmed in martini would taste interesting.

We didn't actually get to see the rabbits doing the ironing, but I know they exist. Somewhere out there, a rabbit *is* doing the ironing.

You got it. A big dipper of a weekend, it was.

I enjoyed reading about Venice Beach. I cycled along it when I was there too.

It's an evil, sadistic person who will torture us with lots of cruel questions about whether our current game is any good, and does it do the officially approved thing if you stick a carrot in the CD drive while jumping up and down on the box and saving a game... Sort of like an editor, really.

Not that I suffer from unreasonable prejudice here or anything.

Whatever it is, good luck finding one.

Thank you. Though I fear that, all too soon, one will find us:-)

As I don't believe I have your mobile no, perhaps you could give me a missed call or a text on 07746134206?

Also, yaye! I look forward to it!

No doubt - with waistcoat, do you think, or just dragged up casual?

I don't know if there is much in the way of rabbitry in Norwich - we have a Rampant Horse, if that's any help?

This post at the TTA boards may be of interest. If you haven't seen it already.

I hadn't - thanks! 13: lucky for some, ie, me.

Hmm, having read all the way down, maybe I should rethink my fear of submitting to Interzone. I was afraid to send them anything else because I got the distinct impression that they were very reluctant to publish LTSIB and were only doing it out of obligation - it was the way they put it off for so long and gave only the vaguest answers to queries.

But even if that was true, at least this shows the readers thought it was OK!

Aha. I was trying to work out if you'd got to that bit or not. :)

I think you should read the most recent issue and boggle at how bad some of the stories are. That should cure your fear.

(I mean, seriously. Richard Calder. Why?)

The readers think you rock!

Wouldn't "words from the code", lightly reworked, make a great SF story?

Mmm... I was thinking that, but then I was thinking that it bears a resemblance to an Asimov story called "Does A Bee Care?", but now I'm thinking that it's not really like that story at all. (DABC is about an immortal bloke who triggers off evolution and development of the human race all around him until they develop space travel, because he is in fact a larva of some other species which can only mature in space)

What you need to do is entitle your story "Does Asimov Care?" in order to forestall accusations of plagiarism through obvious ironic homage ;)

Re: Spies Everywhere

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2006-01-31 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. Lost Things was basically an ironic homage, though, so best not risk it twice :)

It's a niche market I think you could make your own.

How long do Interzone submissions have to be, anyway? I've recently had a fair idea for a SF story called "A Photocopier Is A Machine For Living In"...
