hello world

I HAVE INTERNET AT HOME AGAIN!!!

It's been five weeks of coffee taxes for "free" wifi which doesn't work two times out of three and you can't make a fuss, because after all it's free, even though you have twelve desperately important emails to send RIGHT NOW and your lunch break is about to end. Five weeks of trailing round town with my laptop like an internet bag lady. Five weeks when I've hardly got to read any LJ at all. Paradoxically, it's probably made me faster at responding to emails because I know I have to do it on the spot; when I think I can do it any time, I stick my head in the sand and don't reply for a week. Hopefully the new habits will stick.

But oh my god. You have no idea how good it feels to be online AT MY DESK with MY OWN MUSIC ON, and to know I can stay in tonight and catch up on all my fringe-mail, and not have to worry that the bar staff are looking at me funny because I've been nursing a half for three hours, or that I have too many bits of paper on the table. I can go to the bathroom without having to pack up all my bits of tech and bring them with me in case they get nicked, hoping someone won't steal my seat (the only one near a power socket) while I'm gone. I can get up and have a cup of tea for free whenever I want to. Ahhhhh.

In fact I might just do that now.

How are you doing?

Yay for internet - congrats!

I have got my two photos framed and am working up to replying to your questions properly - but the mounting bit is aced, at least. Yay for creativeness and organization!

Yay indeed for all those things!

Any chance you could bring them over here some time before Thursday?

I'm absolutely knackered, but otherwise fine.

Incidentally, I've just been at [livejournal.com profile] glittertigger and [livejournal.com profile] zandev's place and finally seen some of your artwork in real life, rather than internetly :)

Would it by any chance be possible for me to wander vaguely in your direction at some point for perusal of whatever you currently have with a view to offering you filthy lucre in exchange for depriving you of some of it?

I've come to the realisation that I *have* actually been ill for the last three days and haven't been imagining it at all. Doing an impromptu pub crawl yesterday probably hasn't helped this.

In general, I am desperately trying to acquire some superior web design skillX0r and experience (so I can get a new job doing same) whilst battling the forces of entropy and Remaining Cheerful. It's proving tricky.

I'm pretty good - had a very pleasant weekend with good company and some hopefully exciting developments.

Glad to hear you are back in the world - I am still failing on a regular basis to make it to Oxford, but hope to after I get back from Scotland (late April / early may) if not before.

Wandering around Dublin, thinking about Dublin.

Where is here, exactly - your place? Probably. And which are the venues they'll be in?

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2008-03-24 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I know the feeling.

I started a text message to reply to you on Saturday but never got to finish it. Basically, I was helping run a table (for Caption) all day so couldn't really leave the hall where things were happening except to get some hasty food in Wetherspoons (ugh). Hope the being back home is going well!

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2008-03-24 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes we must! All the reports coming through sound great, not least yourself and Drew's. Damn fringe.

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2008-03-24 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Good stuff. And by then I will actually be able to have a social life again :)

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2008-03-24 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh. It might be. :)

I did plan to put up an exhibition page where people could see everything that was in the show, but then certain other things swallowed my life in one gulp. You could wander in this direction and have a cuppa/beer some evening...?

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2008-03-24 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Is this leading to that situation where your non-work hours are taken up with stuff that resembles work except that you're not (yet) getting paid for it? Cos if so, *groan*, I know what you mean. Good luck with it.

Still on the comedown from Eastercon in general, and in particular an hour-long conversation with China MiƩville this morning about gaming.

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2008-03-24 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw man, TEH AWESOME.

[identity profile] lanfykins.livejournal.com 2008-03-24 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds good.

I'm not sure when I'm proofreading this week, but I actually have a free weekend coming up...

Hurrah!

Yes. Yes I do. CONGRATULATIONS! :-D

Yes, my place would be great. One will be in the foyer of the Jacqueline Du Pre, the other in that little @183 bookshop on Cowley Road just round the corner from yours.

Yaaaay! You are back!

I'm doing fine - sleepy and happy and calm.

I HAVE INTERNET AT HOME AGAIN!!!
Did you steal mine?

:,( *emo tear*

I just got your email about posting the painting right now! I will try and post it today, but life is very complicated right now. What's the deadline?

Yes, I has your internets. I has ALL the internets. They're under my bed.

If you get it to me in the Friday post that should be OK! Hope you enjoyed your holiday.

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
Glad to hear it.

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
I also am hurrah. And I like your walls.

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
A Desk Of One's Own. Everyone needs one.

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
(Erm, I meant "when the post arrives at mine on Friday". My brain is addled by stress.)

Hasn't stopped you Twittering, though: fortunately.
jinty: (pavement jewellery)

I have now picked them up and sent you the answers to your questions

[personal profile] jinty 2008-03-25 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll try to bring them round tonight, if you're not headed out to the pub too early (or maybe you will be revelling in new internets and staying in?). I also have Dan's sake set and an old sleeping bag of his to bring round.

I had my first guitar lesson on Saturday, am jamming weekly with my work colleagues, and trying to write down the dozen or so song fragments that occur to me each day before they dissipate back into ideaspace for someone else to reap the benefit of.

He knows the crowds/ He knows theire faces/ If not their names/ They come to him/ From far-off places/ Bringing scents/ Exotic spices/ He'll never taste/ He knows the crowds

He knows the crowds/ He looks for you/ You're never there/ And never will be/ One day you're through/ The next he'll miss you/ And find some crowds/ To scan their faces/ He knows the crowds

He knows the crowds/ They understand him/ They're looking too/ And always will be/ Someone has lost him/ And seeks out crowds/ All around him/ So many crowds/ He knows the crowds

That's one of today's. And I have Depeche Mode's similar artists on Last.fm right now. Lots of Covenant and VNV and such!

Welcome back!

I'm fine thank you, but less of the mental, bit more of the relaxed so all good.
