I remember seeing Iquitos on a programme somewhere a long time ago, and being fascinated by the idea of a city you couldn't get to by road. IT sounds like a joyful place, in its own way.

Re title - I can't imagine sand-dunes and salty air are in great prevalence. Quaint little villages, yes...
