Ah rain forests. In Brunei we stayed up in a little hut in the heart of it, a place only accessible by river, and then only in a clapboard canoe as that's the only thing with a shallow enough draft to get up the rapids. We still had to get out and carry/drag them to get them across. The sounds at night were amazing (as were the size of the mosquitos. Kath's sister and her family enjoyed it but had a rotten night. I lay in the dark listening to the sounds of the forest, slept deeply and woke before dawn to hike up to the canopy walk, where they've put up a series of walkways above the treetops.
The had been closed as they were unsafe but been repaired not long before our trip. Watching the sun come up across the canopy, hearing it come alive and awake was utterly magical.
