I am trying to see past my own bias, but though people here are very poor, it does have quite a happy atmosphere. You do get some hassle but it feels like friendly hassle. I thought it´d be like China, where people have an air of hard-nosed desperation.

And yes, mud banks and muggy air would be more accurate. And quaint little villages on stilts.
