On the first day I was exhausted when I reached the fifth floor and clung to the banisters gasping, my face comically red. These days, after a month of climbing, I take the stairs at a run. I can feel my calf muscles stretching and contracting, doing their thing efficiently. They're not supposed to work that well. Inside I'm still the kid picked last for games.
