They tell me I have a regional accent. An old friend of the family from Worthing even called it a brogue. I looked at them strangely: I and the people who lived near me spoke normally, it was the rest of the world who talked funny. Surely this was obvious. Then I went away, and came back, and suddenly I could hear the accents. Now there are no normal-speakers left anywhere in the world, not even me.
