A couple of hours' sleep, residual red-wine tipsiness and unexplained aches and pains conspired to put me in a state of mind where my brain was numb, I couldn't think in sentences, ordinary objects looked weird and all these highly improbable and frankly stupid world events seemed to be happening, like I'd wandered into a parallel universe or was dreaming or something -

Then I had more coffee and the stupid world events were still happening. Maybe I should have skipped the coffee.

I have five more hours of teaching. I wish I was in bed.
