As of July 1st I will no longer live in Muswell Hill. At first I didn't mind moving on, but as always happens, as the days count down I’m seeing more and more things I love about here – the way I can stand on the bed, stick my head out the skylight and see way out to the east, the blue computer alcove with its little paper lanterns, the mirrorball, the funny old barber shop on Muswell Hill Broadway, even the weird leggy plant in the sittingroom.

Oh, well, enough with the maudlin. [livejournal.com profile] elethe and I have lots of stuff. Since we’re moving, and I’ll probably have to put most of mine in storage for the summer, it would make sense to rehome as much of it as possible. Money is also nice when you’re moving. So we’re thinking of having a garageless garage sale.

Some weekend day – we’re currently thinking Sunday the 19th of June, though this could change if public opinion’s against it – we’ll have an open house with wine and nibbles, and all the buyable stuff laid out so you can look through it. There'll also be stuff I'm giving away. You’re welcome to come over at any stage and hang out. No pressure to buy anything - it's also an excuse for a sort of house-cooling party - but if you see something you’d like to take home with you, so much the better.

[livejournal.com profile] elethe will be making her own list presently, though I imagine there’ll be lots and lots of DVDs on it. I’ll be offering books and CDs[1], a snow-coloured iMac (there’s nothing wrong with it and I’ll be sorry to part with it, it’s just that my laptop does everything it does but slightly faster), an acoustic guitar, clothes (some barely worn), board games, and lots of other random things. I’ll post up a proper list if there seems to be interest. (People can bagsy things for themselves in advance, of course.)

Edit: Oh, and! I also have a beech-finish Ikea corner bookshelf and a grey Ikea Benno 6-foot-tall CD rack. [livejournal.com profile] kauket has expressed an interest in the CD rack but in case she doesn't want it, feel free to shout out.

Does that sound interesting? Or is it ridiculous to attempt to have a garage sale with no garage, a car boot sale without the car? Opinions welcome.

[1] proceeds from many of the CDs go to the Transatlantic Librarians Fund

House move: I'm going to be looking to move in Sept-ish and have half fear/half excitement about it, at least you've got a housemate this time round, eeesh.

Buggrit Millenium Hand and Fish, I'm in Leicester that weekend.

Can you put up a list?

Anyway, hope the move works out well; that being said, you'd have to work at it to find a nicer bit of Norf London than Muswell Hill.

I want the iMac too, but why? I can't understand it, I have two computers already and yet I long for this one.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] bluedevi you can store anything you like in my attic (so long as it fits through the hatch). I even have some fine cardboard boxes to expedite such a plan.

I know a great flat in Muswell Hill if anyone wants to balance things by being an influx to the area...

That sounds like a great plan - it'll be good to say goodbye to the flat, and homeless books and CDs are always welcome.

I hope you're not encouraging [livejournal.com profile] bluedevi to break LiveJournal Terms of Service XVI.16 (thou shalt not 'engage in commercial activities within LiveJournal or on behalf of LiveJournal.com without prior approval').

(Hypocritically, I'm so coming to the sale party.)

I sense hot competition for the iMac...

Must... Resist... iMac...

And on a COMPLETELY unrelated note... What are the specs of the iMac? I tried to cheat by looking at http://www.info.apple.com/support/applespec.html, but they did quite a few iMac models.

Something cheap that allows me to tinker with Mac OS X (even if slowly) is a remarkably tempting thing... ;-)

Sell my things as you see fit, but don't sell them for next-to-nothing just for the sake of it, as I currently plan to be back in London before too long. If you have any plans to put things in storage for a few months, I'm happy to pay for all of that.

Of course, if you're just going to throw out what you don't sell, in that case please do try and get anything you can for my stuff! ;)

You can have it for free if you're willing to run the risk of me coming back and deciding I want it again ;)

Hello! Where are you moving to? the chances are I missed a livejournal entry about it as I don't update/read my friends list often enough... I am also interested in the iMac, but it looks like a lot of people are! I love buying second-hand stuff. How are you going to decide how much everything should cost? Wow if I had an iMac I could start thinking about getting an ipod. And then start thinking about having no money at all...

From: [identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com
Hmm.. don't pin your hopes on the ipod - the iMac's running a too-old version of osX for it to work. You'd need to upgrade the OS. It's otherwise OK though.

Don't worry, I'm not going to sell them off for buttons, though it seems remarkably hard to get a straight answer out of second-hand CD shops as to what's a reasonable price. I'm not just thinking of storage costs but of bulk, weight, carrying and transporting in helpful people's cars, but on the other hand I'm loath to distribute your CD collection to the four winds. Hm.

Whoops. No actual auctioning then :)

Perhaps I should ask people to email me with their bids for stuff? A purely hypothetical suggestion, of course.

PC's support IPoD's pretty well via Firewire and USB 2.0. PC Firewire cards aren't expensive if you don't already have a Firewire port on whatever you use.

I think the obvious solution is to *rent* out my music collection! They can rip anything they like for a fraction of the cost of actually buying it, and in the meantime your storage/transport costs are reduced to nil.

Mind you this would work better if I didn't have such appalling taste in music (at least in terms of the less-good-stuff I left behind).

Wish I could be there to help with the move, and really, if there's anything I can contribute e.g. helping with costs, I'm completely willing.

Yeah, can take the bookshelf thing, will probably be very useful.

If you can get stuffed packed and sorted out a bit by next sunday (and maybe weekend after), I can ask A. to drive some of it to Oxford for storage
