Woo yay! and other such exclamations of delight.

Goddamn I'm exhausted now. But that was a lot of fun, even with the sore shoulders. I must have more deadlines. Deadlines are my friend.

That's right! Deadlines are the only way that people like us get anything done at all - well that and intuition, instinct and impulse :-)

That's put the Bananas In Pyjamas theme in my head. Oh dear... but cheers :)

Bananas, in pyjamas, are coming down the stairs.

Oh, time's up? I wasn't paying due attention. Tsk, and neither of the two things I was aiming to have done-ish by end of month are done. Damn you, passage of time!

Oh, it's all arbitrary really. I just kid myself that it isn't in order to have drive.

But so was I, and now it's gone and the things aren't finished. I suppose I should do some sort of further arbitrary trickery, like fining myself twenty quid for each day I go over deadline.

You helped me over the line by amusing me with the Bad Sex Awards.

Though it's probably bad and wrong that I liked a good few of them. When they weren't Marlon Brando or mentioning sauce.

I actually laughed out loud at Zorro, but I can't say it was doing anything else for me.

Wow! I'm really proud of you! I personally had a dismal showing this year, so it's nice to see that someone managed to stick with it. xx

It's not that huge an achievement considering that I have no job! But thanks.

OOK.

It's like job satisfaction, only without resenting the boss.

"I don't need inspiration, I need deadlines". That was my key inspiration for taking up the course I'm doing now.

Well done! I could never write a novel in a month. At my pace, it'll take a year, at least.

Date: 2005-12-01 12:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com
Well... I'm a lousy cheat and it isn't a whole novel. I bent the rules to just mean 50,000 words on my works in progress, which is actually two books and a pile of travel articles I'm going to try and sell. But it's words! And some of them aren't crap!

I reckon it'd be very hard to do a finished, proper novel in less than a year. The only one I've finished (for some values of finished; I'm having to rewrite it now) took me about fifteen months from initial idea to printing it out and putting it in an envelope, and I wasn't working for a chunk of that.

50,000 words is 50,000 words is an average of 1.666K words per day, every day, which I think is more than respectable. Not cheating at all. Especially if the words aren't crap. :-)

My problem with my novel is that a) it's historical, so I've got a huge amount of research to do before I'll feel comfortable writing more than the odd vignette; b) it's obscure historical, so the research isn't easy; and c) the style I'm going for is going to require multiple drafts. I may not finish this thing for two years, at least.

Great job! Now can we read it? ;)

I should begin my The Hours project today really, out of sheer arrant perversity, but since Jo has a spare ticket for The Proclaimers I probably won't. Damn you, cheeky Scottish popsters!

Something I've learnt from doing all this NaNoing is that it's possible to squeeze in an hour of writing at all sorts of odd times, even in an otherwise busy day... ;>

But have a good gig!

Yes, but you have a laptop!

I'd really like to get a tiny little one like Hugh's, actually, for the sole purpose of writing away from home. I have the sinking feeling that a small laptop is likely to be even more expensive than a big powerful one, though :-/

And I will be looking for beta-readers by and by, if you don't mind me cramming in all sorts of stuff I liked as a child and then moving it around tiredly for a while...

As long as you don't mind me saying what I think, instead of what I think you want to hear, I'd love to!

Even if what I think is hopelessly wrongheaded, you can always argue my opinion around ;)

Sadly no, I am at ATP in Kent. (Which I can ill afford, but it's been sort-of-planned for yonks. Hurrah!)

Have a good one. I'd tell you to have a drink on my behalf but I don't think you'll need any extra encouragement ;>
