It is giving me serious pain not to be able to reply to the comments on my last post that include contributions. They all fill me with squee. They also interpret the maps in many different ways, exactly as I was hoping, though [livejournal.com profile] katstevens and [livejournal.com profile] jinty agree on one aspect. More please, though! Come out of the woodwork, secret worldbuilders!

To [livejournal.com profile] earwigmc - I like your idea. I was hoping someone might see it that way. Feel free to do what you said you were tempted to do. Also, I wanna see my comic coloured in.

And now I'm going to balance out the maps by painting some very tiny things, plant cells and amoebas and other microbiology. I might call the exhibition Zoom In/Zoom Out.

if you mean replying to comments unscreens them, it's easy enough to select both comment and your reply and rescreen them... I'm assing this facility is available in all journal styles? Obviously it's harder for them to reply to you, but as long as they get their comments emailed (I assume everyone does?) they'll see your reply...

As will anyone subscribed to the post - but I assume if someone's subscribed to the post then they actually want to see comments and so won't mind being spoilered.

I have some ideas for the maps but am already hideously behind on all things involving image manipulation.

good point, although I haven't played wih the track/subscibe thing at all - I haven't felt the need - myself. If there isn't a way to turn it off for your own posts, then there should be... or they could just bloody well sort out the bug that causes posts to get unscreened like that in the first place.

Re you and image manipulation, btw, I really liked the red tree. I liked the over-the-top hyper-realness of it.

Hey, thanks! That works. Should have thought that unscreened comments didn't have to stay that way forever.

Ooh - if you're wanting very-tiny-things-inspiration then you should check out the Small Worlds exhibition (http://www.mhs.ox.ac.uk/smallworlds/index.php) at the MHS.

Oh yes, I did notice that and thought it looked fantastic. Thanks for the beautiful e-card.

The idea made me go WHEE but then my lameness stopped from doing anything and my insecurity will stop me from attempting anything because I know it will suck. Sorry.

No need to apologise. And I'm not awarding marks out of ten, you know :)

It was very good fun! Also having a copy of The Atlas Of Middle Earth is v useful for getting your fantasy-geography the right way up (e.g. lots of flat-ish plains = good for horses = don't have to rely on river for transportation etc etc)

I liked yours a lot. Thanks! I'm going to draw stuff on a copy of the map based on it.
