It does buy happiness. That's the terrible thing. No matter how unmaterialistic you are, no matter how much you shun designer labels and flashy status-symbol homewares, the fact remains that if someone handed you three thousand pounds today your life, relationships, prospects would be immeasurably better. Sad, really.

Is it sad? I'm thinking about that three grand and feeling slightly dizzy. I am a hoarder, but I only work to indulge my passions of film, music, books.

It's whether you want the money, or the beautiful and fun things you can do with it! Idea is all, capital a mere accessory.

Exactly. It's very much the beautiful and fun things you can do with it, and if you have debts, the lack of worry. There are two factors which enable you to do beautiful and fun things: Time and Money. If you're without either, you're paralysed. Very few people manage to have enough of both.

I've done plenty of fun and beautiful things without money, often on my own. However, a little money would have brightened almost all of them further, even if it was just to buy an ice-cream for afterwards...
