poll of sorts

Okay, I'm a bit behind at 12,000 words. This is partly due to constant ruckus in study room yesterday - I thought I might get a chance to write while supervising, but instead spent hours on end marching back and forth telling people to shut up or get out. And then dealing with the students who decided to take the piss by telling other chattering students "please be quiet, may I remind you that the study room is not a social area" in what sounded like an attempt to combine my accent with a sort of stuffy, received-pronunciation accent that might have been meant to signify 'person in authority with poker up arse'.

And now it's Saturday and I should be making up for lost time, but this is a nonsequential sort of novel, it's supposed to be readable in any order and I usually write like that anyway, and I can't decide what bit to do next. And so.

What would you be most interested in reading?

  • A story about a sexually frustrated launderette owner
  • A story entirely taking place in the head of a psychotic woman who never leaves her house and has paranoid delusions about Ealing Council
  • A sort of supernatural thriller about two boys on a night bus, a mysterious McGuffin and a case of mistaken identity
  • A fantasy story set in a magic-driven cyberspace library
  • A chicklit parody about a girl with rival suitors and poor impulse control
  • A random idea of your choosing (please elaborate)

Since I'm poor and can't do ticky boxes, please comment!

The psychotic woman with paranoid delusions gets my vote!
Predictably enough...

Mine too, similarly predictably.

A fantasy story set in a magic-driven cyberspace library

Aye.

#1 - the fantasy story set in cyberspace
#2 - the story set in the psychotic woman's head

Do you post any of your story on a website?

Night bus or library. Though I expect you wanted your mind made up before now ;-)

Well, I just went ahead with the chicklit one (after some research using [livejournal.com profile] kauket's large collection) because it was light and fluffy and fun to do. But feel free to vote on which one comes next!

That's currently looking like it'll be the library story. Good stuff. I was looking forward to doing that one.

Libraries and cyberpunk is a good mix. In fact the very first cyberpunk story which started it all had a library scene...

When I clicked to comment, I had an idea of which stories on the list would be good. Then I looked back up at the list, and my shortlist turned out to be all of them. The psychotic woman or the night bus stories, if I had to choose.

Sexual frustration in a launderette. Or sexual frustration in a magic-driven cyberspace library. Anything about sexual frustration in hotbeds of sexual frustration (libraries, launderettes, railway carriages) would be welcome, really.

Launderette or library or paranoid delusions. So difficult to choose, they're all such good ideas! Maybe you could do sexual frustration and paranoid delusions in libraries, although this would be frighteningly similar to my life...
Incidentally, did you go to the goth thing at the V&A? Katherine who came to Matt's party with me said she thought she saw you there...
