* Save the files that are wanted to a CD. * Reformat before the reinstall (assuming you have a proper xp installation pack with serial numbers and all) * reinstall * install virus checker and get it up-to-date * check the files on CD for viruses
If you have the opportunity to get a better virus checker, I would highly recommend NOD32 from Eset. Inexpensive, easy-to-use, fast and very accurate. Much better than Norton.
