What gets to me isn't so much the loss, as the fact that she had a pretty shit life due to being treated badly when she was little and never getting used to humans. If those people in the pet shop had treated her like a creature rather than a product, I might be grieving more now, but in a good way - having lost a small friend. As things stand it just seems like a waste.
