Buy. Buy more. Buy. And… be happy.

As of July 1st I will no longer live in Muswell Hill. At first I didn't mind moving on, but as always happens, as the days count down I’m seeing more and more things I love about here – the way I can stand on the bed, stick my head out the skylight and see way out to the east, the blue computer alcove with its little paper lanterns, the mirrorball, the funny old barber shop on Muswell Hill Broadway, even the weird leggy plant in the sittingroom.

Oh, well, enough with the maudlin. [livejournal.com profile] elethe and I have lots of stuff. Since we’re moving, and I’ll probably have to put most of mine in storage for the summer, it would make sense to rehome as much of it as possible. Money is also nice when you’re moving. So we’re thinking of having a garageless garage sale.

Some weekend day – we’re currently thinking Sunday the 19th of June, though this could change if public opinion’s against it – we’ll have an open house with wine and nibbles, and all the buyable stuff laid out so you can look through it. There'll also be stuff I'm giving away. You’re welcome to come over at any stage and hang out. No pressure to buy anything - it's also an excuse for a sort of house-cooling party - but if you see something you’d like to take home with you, so much the better.

[livejournal.com profile] elethe will be making her own list presently, though I imagine there’ll be lots and lots of DVDs on it. I’ll be offering books and CDs[1], a snow-coloured iMac (there’s nothing wrong with it and I’ll be sorry to part with it, it’s just that my laptop does everything it does but slightly faster), an acoustic guitar, clothes (some barely worn), board games, and lots of other random things. I’ll post up a proper list if there seems to be interest. (People can bagsy things for themselves in advance, of course.)

Edit: Oh, and! I also have a beech-finish Ikea corner bookshelf and a grey Ikea Benno 6-foot-tall CD rack. [livejournal.com profile] kauket has expressed an interest in the CD rack but in case she doesn't want it, feel free to shout out.

Does that sound interesting? Or is it ridiculous to attempt to have a garage sale with no garage, a car boot sale without the car? Opinions welcome.

Sounds like a lot of fun...I shall try and be there at some stage.

Tell me I don't need a second Classic iMac, quick!

As a confirmed shopaholic I think this is a storming idea. :-) And the date works for me, too, I think.

Where are you moving to?

You don't need a... oh, hang on. Sure you do!

I'll be asking about 200 quid for it. It was something like 1100 new, but that was in late 2001.

Which board games?

Thereby hangs a tale. I don't actually know yet.

I should come and rescue my bits that seem to have rehomed themselves there, shouldn't I? Be silly for you to have to move them...

So sad you are moving :(

Tempt, tempt. If it was a tangerine iBook I'd be on it in a flash.

The GameCube is mine by default, yesyes?

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
A Buffy game missing a few bits, Kerplunk!, and a barely-used-at-all, quite new Dungeons & Dragons game - I'd like to keep that last, but it's bulky. Come to think of it, proceeds from that also go to the Transatlantic Librarians Fund.

Yup - that was arranged some time ago, wasn't it?

I think if you put up a list on here, you'll end up running your own little version of eBay!

Kerplunk!

I shall look to wander along, I think.

I know, it's a shame. But with Jo moving too the North London posse seems to be dissolving anyway :(

iMac iMac iMac. It's calling to me ;-(

Great idea, and if I go to [livejournal.com profile] marnameow's knitting thing in London that day, I'll certainly drop in and buy loads of stuff I don't really need say hi ;-)

I'd love to drop in and see you again - but sadly I'll be in Dorset that weekend :( Damn parential birthdays - damn them all the way to Clintons!

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking that...

I am in pretty desperate need of shelving and would like a look at that shelf, it's transporting it that might be the issue. Same for the CD rack.

Wine, you say?

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, gosh, I dunno. A tenner?

[identity profile] silme.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
There are times I really, really miss owning a Mac... Do post a list.

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Good stuff. And see reply to absinthecity...

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll see if I can find it on the ikea website for you, so you can have a look in advance. You probably would need to borrow someone with a car. And yes, I do say wine.

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
What a great curse.

[identity profile] bluedevi.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine, though you do get somewhat bitten by the exchange rate there.

[identity profile] caescarna.livejournal.com 2005-06-09 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha - that should have been "Father's Day" - and the sentiment remains the same :)

What are your plans for the Summer then?
