It's time to play Good Thing, Bad Thing!
Feb. 28th, 2006 01:57 pmWe used to do this on the Fibbers mailing list when I was in college.
Good thing: Thank you, whoever sent the virtual flower on my infopage.
Bad thing: I just discovered Death Cab For Cutie, who I love to tiny bits, are playing the Zodiac! Right here! In Oxford! The weekend after next! But I am in sodding Ireland then. Arse, arse, arse, feck. Feck. *kicks things*
Good Things and Bad Things, anyone?

Date: 2006-02-28 01:59 pm (UTC)Bad thing: I still haven't been paid. It's not so much the having no money that bothers me, as the having to raise the energy to pester them yet again about how it's late again, when I thought I'd got it all sorted out last month. And the month before. Oh the joys of freelancing.

Date: 2006-02-28 02:16 pm (UTC)Bad thing: I’ve been paid about £100 less than I should have been. Do I want to hope that I’ve been shunted onto emergency tax? Will this screw up my mortgage?

Date: 2006-02-28 02:44 pm (UTC)Bad thing: Right this second, that I can't find a chuck key small enough to fit the air drill. I have to separate these lockers, because the pair are too big to go in the space so they must be split, by drilling their rivets out and that means getting a drill inside the lockers and the only one small enough is the air drill. And no-one seems to have a small chuck key.

Date: 2006-03-01 11:03 pm (UTC)Bad thing: I dropped my sax. I forgot to close the zip on the case and it slithered out of my taxi onto the road. It doesn't -look- damaged, but when you look closely, a couple of the pads are bent out of shape. No more Cs or Ds for me until it's repaired. This means a visit to an overly loquacious woodwind-shop guy, lots of waiting and, Pete reckons, about 100 quid. Pete's my teacher.
Good thing: Pete pointed out the damage and explained that it could cost a lot more to repair it, and I (shyly) asked whether it would make sense to buy a new one. I'm playing a student model, you see, and I'd hate him to think I thought I was more competant than I actually am. He was very encouraging, recommended his favourite dealers, offered to ship it home for me once I'd done some browsing, was generally pro- the idea. And this bolstered my confidence enough to mention that I'd always wanted to try out a tenor sax. The tenors are bigger and sexier and I'm a little bit intimidated by their coolness. And, awesome guy that he is, he insisted I borrow his beautiful, tarnished, genuine unlaquered brass one for the week. So now I have a tenor sax sitting on my bed, waiting for it not to be too late in the evening to play. I tried it out in the school and it's just gorgeous -- really deep and mellow and incredibly loud. I'm somewhat in raptures over it.
So that's my bad thing/good thing story. The good thing wins.
